Ocean Grounds, a creative and innovative 3rd wave cafe and coffe roaster , opened their second Shanghai location in January 2016 with NAO leading the interior Design and collaborating with Visual Identity and mural artists of Orange Blowfish. Ocean grounds drew inspiration from California beach culturewhere specialty coffee culture meets bold visual storytelling. The interior pairs warm timber, concrete, and industrial detailing with a vibrant graphic identity and large-scale skateboard mural whose dynamic geometry, layered typography, and saturated blues and oranges inject the space with motion and character. A long communal bar and triangular communal table anchors the café, encouraging interaction between baristas and guests, while illuminated shelving and crafted display niches celebrated the ritual and craft of coffee making. From the expressive murals to the carefully curated materials and lighting, the café balanced precision and playfulness—positioning itself as a Shanghai destination where design, brand, and coffee culture seamlessly intersected.
